Instructor: Jan Ham
Ages: 9-12
Six Thursdays, 10-11:30am
February 25th - April 1st
Tuition: $175.00
Non refundable materials fee: $75
Can you imagine the house of your dreams? And then develop and share your ideas? That’s ‘design thinking!’ In these six hands-on design studio sessions, you will use Math, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Visual Art skills to:
explore the architecture around you,
solve structural design challenges
use drafting tools to draw site plans, floor plans, and elevations; and,
build a scale model of your dream house.
With your kit of design tools, you’ll be able to draw more house plans long after the course is done.
If you like to draw and build--and imagine great spaces--this course is for you!
This programming runs on six Thursdays from 10:00am-11:30am, during the dates of February 25th to April 1st.
Full tuition cost is $175. All materials are included with this fee. This class is designed for ages 9-12. A non-refundable $75 materials fee goes toward the full cost of tuition.
Instructor Jan Ham, of the Children’s Design Studio, founded the Boston Society for Architecture’s K-12 Learning By Design in Massachusetts program, and taught an Architectural Studio course at UMass Lowell’s College of Engineering’s DesignCamp. She has seen, first-hand, the power of hands-on project-based learning; and believes that, given the opportunity, children are eager to, and wholly capable of, expressing their ideas about their world through design.
