Our passionate team of instructors offer engaging workshops which mix artistic elements into subjects like anatomy, physics, electronics, engineering and more! APRIL Vacation

Full week programming for ages 11-15 is available at the cost of $315, and for ages 6-11 the cost of $225 . Activities will also be available for sign up at individual costs listed below. To complete enrollment, parents/guardians must fill out this registration form which collects important information regarding you and your child. Drop off is at 8:45am and pick up at 4:00pm daily!

All activities listed below are included in the cost of $315. All materials are included and structured free time with staff is incorporated to enjoy playing games, walking to visit city murals and meet local artists. In addition students, aged 11-15 will be able to select and participate in a number of other shorter length science, technology and art activities. Some of these projects are featured in the youth ages 6-11 and will be adapted to the age and skill of participants. Inclusion of the glass workshop for students aged 13+ is an additional $45.

3D printing

Schedule: Monday and Tuesday, 9am-12pm

3D printing technology allows us to turn digital 3D models into physical objects. Our Lulzbot Taz 6 printer is a user friendly machine capable of printing objects within its 11"x11"x9.8" build limit. This 2 session workshop will teach users how to prepare models in Cura, and run successful prints on the Taz 6. We will cover common techniques used when preparing models, how various settings effect the printing process, filament loading and unloading, proper safety measures, and how to navigate some of the Taz 6's controls.
laser cut design

Learn the basics of 2D computer aided design (CAD) while crafting an object with our laser cutter! This 2 session class teaches the steps needed to transform a digital design into a finished physical object. Class one will include an overview and demonstration of the process before we learn how to navigate and create a laser cuttable design using free Inkscape software. We’ll discuss the difference between raster and vector images, and how the laser cuts with both types, and learn about the importance of knowing your material as a crucial part of the design process. After everyone has cut their wooden pieces, we’ll end by walking through the wood finishing process.
monogram design

Work with a professional graphic designer and learn how to transfer drawings to become digital graphics! This workshop will include guided drawing exercises, a discussion on trends in brand and logo creation, and introduction to 2D computer aided design. Students will create personal icons and monograms with a goal of turning them into physical objects. Using Technocopia's Roland vinyl cutter and/or Full Spectrum laser cutter, graphics will be etched or cut into wood or made into stickers. This workshop is designed for ages, 11-15.
T-Shirt design

Students in this two day afternoon workshop will learn 2D graphic design using the open source software InkScape. Students will learn how to use Technocopia's Roland vinyl cutter and how to create a silk screen for printing. Students will use fabric paint and learn how to print onto shirts. Each student will leave with one to two t-shirts and a sample of their unique prints on paper.

Only 2 spots are available per workshop. Please preface if you want this included as a part of your full week sign up! Students must also be aged 13 or older.
Students in this two day morning or two day afternoon workshop will be introduced to and mentored in Technocopia's glass studio. Professional glass artist, Molly Jackson, will take each student through a safety training and glass equipment orientation, and teach techniques in the old-world process of glass flame working. This process uses glass, a two thousand degree flame of an oxygen-propane bench torch, and gravity to make various ornaments and sculptures. In this workshop students will use glass rods and colored frit (crushed glass) to sculpt tiny animals. Each creation will need 24 hours to be annealed in a kiln overnight. and can be taken home the next day. Closed-toe shoes and natural fibered clothing are required.

Paper Circuits

Create circuits and playful cards using copper tape, LEDs and colorful craft paper! Students will learn basic circuits, LED polarity, and how to create switches. This is an introduction to electronics with a lot of creative license!
Linoleum Print Making

Printmaking is the process of making art work by transferring ink from a stamp or plate onto a sheet of paper. In this class students will pencil draw, cut linoleum and paint and print images inspired by the natural world.

As an extension to, Learn To Solder, or on its own, this workshop will extend a students capabilities in soldering, electronics and circuit board knowledge. Students will learn applications of infrared technology and build their own Adafruit TV-B-Gone remote control.

Chemistry lab: Fizz & Foam!

Join Technocopia for this fun afternoon where students examine commercial soap brands and are then tasked with designing their own! Students will learn an age old process that uses a strong base and fats and oils in a process called saponification! This 3 hour laboratory will include additional chemistry lab experiments that fizz, change color and spark!
*Soaps made in this laboratory are food grade quality and available for use on the skin at home! Ingredients include: coconut oil, essential oils, and sodium hydroxide (ph balancer). Due to an important curing process, soaps won't be available until 24-36 hours after the workshop.
