Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer day passes?

Unfortunately, we can’t do day passes! For insurance purposes, you need to be a member in order to use shops and tools at Technocopia and each member needs to get certified on equipment first.

There are two alternatives if you need something made at Technocopia but don’t want to become a member. The first alternative option is to pay $40/hour for an instructor to do a private session with you. The second is to post a job shop offering, which Technocopia members can accept if they have an interest in working on the project. If you are interested in a private class, contact us, and if you’re interested commissioning a job, check out our job shop info here!

Can I have something made / can you do a job for me?

While Technocopia does not have a focus as a job shop, we do sometimes offer to use staffed hours to work on jobs if the project is either community focused or very cool! You can find out more information on our job shop rates here.

If the project is out of scope for our staffed hours, or you aren’t interested in our rates, we can ask to send a job offer to our membership to see if someone wants to take the job. If you fill a form for a quote, we’ll forward the message to our members, and from there we can connect you to members who are interested in connecting with you.

Can I request and schedule private classes?

Yes, you can send a request to schedule private sessions with Technocopia instructor! If you are interested in this option please contact us.

What is the class cancellation policy

If you cannot attend a class, please let us know 24 hours before the class is scheduled to ensure a full refund or transfer. There are no refunds for missed classes.

Certain classes have a minimum enrollment noted in the Eventbrite description. If this minimum number of students is not met the class may be canceled. In the event of a class cancellation due to minimum enrollment, instructor cancellation, or weather related cancellation, all students will receive full refunds.

Do you have a ceramics studio?

We do not have a ceramics studio!

We wish we could answer the plea for a ceramics studio in Central Massachusetts with an enthusiastic yes, but that is unfortunately not an undertaking Technocopia can undergo at this time. Technocopia Makerspace is in the historic Printer’s Building in downtown Worcester, which means that modifications to the building to get the ventilation and plumbing needed to make a good experience for ceramics blocked by historic preservation laws. Plus, we only have 12,000 square feet of space to work with, which means that we’d have to replace a space that is currently used for tools or people with a space for ceramics.

That being said, there have been some discussions around making something that works well for the space with ceramics, and we got some rough brainstorming done about what we could do if we ever pursued that. If we ever find a member who was willing to champion the development of the studio and start out as it’s first steward, we would be willing to have discussions on how to get a ceramics studio in the makerspace!👀

Do you offer Business/Corporate Memberships?
