Gimbap and Fun Sodas At Eric’s Birthday Party

By: Ariel Amasifuén

Technocopia Makerspace will often host member birthdays at Open Hack for members who consistently come to Open Hack. Usually the birthday kid will bring in their own drinks and snacks the day of to share with Technocopia Members, but this year we decided we wanted to put together a party for our Operations Director Eric Sutman, for the especially hard work he always puts into the makerspace.

Stewards Jessica and Ben came up with the original concept of hosting a Gimbap pot luck, with the idea that we would bring in the standard Gimbap materials, and members had the option to bring in additional ingredients to add to the options that folks could use. Recommendations were for making the food colorful, and if possible, gluten free and vegetarian, since we have members in the space who eat with those food restrictions.

Kevin and his folks also brought in an assortment of non-alcoholic teas, sodas, and juices from the east asian food market to try out. Eric is known in the space for enjoying unusal foods and drinks as a thing to try out, and explore new palettes, so we incorporated that into our evening with tiny little cups to sample all of the different drinks that were brought in.

It was a lively evening of folks going at making their own Gimbap creations after Jessica showed folks how to assemble them, testing out fun drinks, eating cake, and settling into Open Hacks like others where people chat, collaborate, and tried to make things with the distractions of good conversation and munchies.
